I found out that higher doses of gabapentin need to be spread out across the day as the body cannot absorb high doses at once. So, instead of 450 mg at once at night, take 150 mg in morning, 150 middle of day and 150 mg before bed. If you are taking 900 mg at once, most of it is wasted. I’m saying the nature of gabapentin/pregabalin isn’t to be something that will induce sleep. I haven’t taken Seroquel. Honestly, I had horrible sleep for years, I spent a lot of time practicing good sleep hygiene and 3 weeks taking melatonin a few hours before bed. (No blue light etc etc). I currently use Gabapentin for sleep and have for at least several years now. It is actually also very good for easing anxiety. It is very calming. I don’t have any side effects from it. I fall asleep easily. I wake up well rested. It doesn’t cause me any trouble getting out of bed which I appreciate because some sleep medications do that. I'm taking 100mg gabapentin and 0.36mg Pramipexole. I usually take the gabapentin and half the Pramipexole dose after my last meal in the early evening, then the other half of the Pramipexole just before bed. I also take 100mg gabapentin in the morning as it was prescribed for pain related to my pacemaker. I take 400mg 1 hour before bed and it's magic for me! I don't take it for any other reason. I'm a long-time insomniac and have always considered gabapentin a "placebo pill" for insomnia, but I was wrong. It increases slow-wave sleep and is known to be better for sleep maintenance than initiation. Hope that helps. When used for insomnia, most doctors will write a prescription for 100-400 mg of Gabapentin. This should be taken once a day right before you’re ready to go to bed. I take 500mg before bed for RLS and sleep amazing. I've been given almost all non-benzo sleep aids (trazadone, remeron, lunesta, hydroxyzine etc) and gabapentin is the only one that really helped. The recommended time to take gabapentin before sleeping is typically 1 to 2 hours prior to bedtime. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine provides guidance on the timing of medications that affect sleep. I was prescribed 300mg gabapentin to take as needed/every 8 hrs for pain. I haven't noticed a difference as far as pain, but for the first couple weeks I was taking it, it was really helping me sleep. I wasn't taking it during the day, but I'd take 300mg right before bed. I went from waking up 1-3 times a night to rarely waking up in the night at all. Now I'm back to waking up 1-3 times during As a new user of Gabapentin, prescribed for insomnia, at just a 100mg dose before bed so far I haven't seen the sleep benefits yet but really hope they come at slightly higher doses. Taking before bed allows me to sleep though any side effects. I also didn’t want to get hooked having to take it every 3/4 hours—something about that just makes me a little uncomfortable. I do feel moderate effects thought out the whole next day in terms of anxiety improvement and mood, but definitely not as much come the afternoon. Available research suggests that gabapentin may be helpful for primary insomnia. But we need more studies before we can determine if the benefit outweighs the risk. A study of over 250 people with occasional insomnia found that taking 250 mg of gabapentin before bedtime increased the length of time people slept. So I'm planning on taking 900mg of Gabapentin right now but was wondering if it's safe. I drank 2 shots of vodka about 7 hours ago and feel Gabapentin before bed? I've always felt pretty drained on a day-to-day basis, but recently I tried taking gabapentin about 4-5 hours before I went to sleep and woke up feeling amazing, and the feeling persisted throughout the day. I read that it is taken typically at 1800mg divided in 3 doses daily for neuropatic pain. My plan would be to take 1 dose of 300mg before bed. At this dose there shouldn’t be much risk. Typically, taking gabapentin 1-2 hours before bedtime allows for its sleep-promoting effects to align with the desired sleep onset. Melatonin, THC, meditation etc (my normal go-tos for sleep,) were not nearly as effective as gabapentin has been.
