For my kitty, who takes the oral liquid (which is 50mg/mL) became "zombified" at 0.6mL and lost control of her bladder at 0.8mL. I give my girl 20mg gabapentin 2x a day. I put the pill in her soft food and spoon feed it to her lol. She has hyperesthesia which sounds a lot like your first cat you described. It keeps her calm and happy and less anxious. Without it her skin is constantly twitching, lots of licking the skin and abnormal zoomies. For the vet she gets 100mg lol.
