I have taken Gabapentin for 30 years and have been suffering from constipation for just as long. I take Metamucil every day to try to combat this and I also try to incorporate prebiotics in my diet from food such as fermented sauerkraut, pickles and olives. In isolation, it is theoretically possible for gabapentin, pregabalin, baclofen and the like to cause some constipation, although I have never heard of it reaching the Shitting The Pineapple level. Beta blockers, antihistamines, sedatives, a lot of benzodiazepines and the like also have this effect, and it is more marked with anticholinergics. I've been taking gabapentin for anxiety for over a year now. My Psych recently upped my dose from 400 to 600 mg per day. I took it the last 2 nights. Gabapentin is so much safer and is barely rewarding or addictive unlike many other medications we can prescribe. Sure you need to taper when stopping but that's true of many medications.
