I started taking gabapentin for anxiety as needed, then daily for migraines, and it seems to be a good combination with my fibromyalgia meds. It’s definitely worth looking into. The only side effect I’ve noticed since taking it daily for a year+ is I was a little sleepy the first few weeks or whenever my dosage was changed. After years of taking gabapentin, Lyrica, cymbalta and all the rest I went off EVERYTHING for about 6 months. I started back with Adderall and having hormone therapy. Ive been on gabapentin steadily since around 2012. I recently decided, with my doc's approval, to come down off gabapentin and try going without it for awhile before trying something else. 10 votes, 59 comments. I'm on lyrica right now because my primary doctor recommended it, but this other doctor I saw said gabapentin is much better Gabapentin isn't really addictive, but you do have to slowly reduce dosage to wean yourself off of it because there can be some nasty side effects of stopping cold turkey, probably due to the fact that it's primarily an anti-seizure medication. People should definitely be informed about side effects/withdrawal effects before starting something like gabapentin but for any medication that's used for fibromyalgia you can find people who had a bad experience with it. So I take the gabapentin sometimes and the lyrica sometimes. I feel like the Lyrica is actually better for my fibromyalgia, but it makes me way more sleepy, and I get blurry vision. Toothpaste with actual stannous fluoride, flossing, good dental visits, and good mouthwash are essential for me now, not an option.
