I take gabapentin for anxiety and it barely helps me. I take 900mg/day but apparently the highest dose is in the thousands. I just started depakote so I don't wanna increase gabapentin until my mood stabilizes. Gabapentin reduced my anxiety tremendously. And I had it bad. But it all comes down to biochemistry and what it is what is causing the anxiety. I think a mistake people make is that if it doesn’t help at a low dose they raise the dose super high which can cause lots of side effects and make getting off hard. It seems the people it helps the most will feel at least some relief even at a low dose. So I went to drugs.com reading reviews for anxiolytics and stumbled on gabapentin, which had pages and pages of people saying it works incredibly. I got a prescription for it and haven't had any anxiety at all since taking the first pill. None. I found out I had ADHD a year after I'd been taking Gabapentin and found out it's used to treat anxiety too. I am currently not medicated but looking to start and see how it will help with my ADHD (My diagnosis is very recent). I've been prescribed gabapentin for anxiety 100mg x 3 per day. I took it for a week and didn't even notice any slight difference. One 2020 review suggests gabapentin may help with different types of situational anxiety, I was reading up on gabapentin for anxiety and saw multiple things stating it will “take weeks to see the full effects” of the med — but why is this? I would think a gaba modulator would work immediately. While it's true that GABA plays a role in anxiety, anxiety is complex, and researchers are still trying to figure out how and if gabapentin might work to ease symptoms of moderate or severe anxiety.
