About a year later I started having the burning pain in my feet. Went to several drs & ended up at the Pain Clinic where this dr put me on max dose of 4-4-4, 300 mg ea daily. Gabapentin completely eliminated the pain and numbess for a bit over a year. Eventually the pain and numbness came back even stronger and the doctor recommended cymbalta. Now with taking both medications im living much more comfortably. You should take gabapentin for as long as your healthcare provider tells you to. Gabapentin is approved to treat seizures and postherpetic neuralgia, a type of nerve pain following shingles. It is thought to work by changing how nerves send messages to your brain. It is also used off-label to treat other neuropathic pain conditions. I haven’t heard of neurontin making neuropathy worse but maybe it is not the correct medication for you? Other meds used are Pregablin (Lyrica) which is an epileptic like neurontin and also an antidepressant called Cymbalta. I’ve been diagnosed with nerve pain from Functional Neurological Disorder and was prescribed pregabalin (which didn’t work for me) and then gabapentin. Overall gabapentin capsules being taken regularly at separate times throughout the day has made my pain seem lower overall. My pinched nerve is in my damn spine and it’s manageable but my god, my left arm just has this constant transient stabbing and throbbing. Didn’t help much and I certainly didn’t notice any sedating effects at all. My allowable dose was up to 300 mg 3x a day, though, so not the max amount. Gabapentin worked wonderful for nerve pain for me for about a year. It took me a few days to get used to it. At first it made me extremely drowsy and I could not take it 3 times a day or I would be useless at work. My doctor worked with me to find a way to slowly increase the dose to the prescribed dose and I was there in a few days. Gabapentin worked for my nerve pain but it made me grind my teeth sompthin fierce. So I switched to lyrica. So far so good! I’m pretty sure that I have a pinched nerve in my back. It hurts right along the side of my spine on the left side and it’s a pinching radiating pain from my neck to half way down my back just in the area I said. My question is would gabapentin make help with pinched nerve pain? I can’t find much info on this subject on the web.
