For my cat, she is definitely more lethargic and at its peak has trouble jumping super high. I give my girl 20mg gabapentin 2x a day. I put the pill in her soft food and spoon feed it to her lol. She has hyperesthesia which sounds a lot like your first cat you described. It keeps her calm and happy and less anxious.
