Gabapentin Weight Gain Hey, first post here about 2 months back I got diagnosed with Cyclothymia and immediately was prescribed gabapentin. Weight gain is a known side effect of gabapentin and Lyrica. My neurologist’s office nurse said 40 lbs was typical. I was already having severe mood swings and the weight gain was pushing me to severe depression. I went off the drug, not knowing that you really, really need to titrate down carefully. I felt like had the flu for six weeks. Has anyone been on Metformin to help with weight gain from antipsychotics? @emmaleemochizuki im taking for my diabetes but it doesnt help with weight loss just from my end. I started taking gabapentin in 2016 after stabbing, fiery nerve pain post an L5/S1 fusion. It allowed me to get off of opioids which for me had worse side effects. Side effects for me on Gabapentin did not include any weight gain. Mine were more typical such as drowsiness, unsteadiness on feet when first getting up and foggy thinking. As a pharmacist I also have not had patients I suspected of abusing gabapentin. I can only recall one situation where a patient had a pattern of early gabapentin refills, and it was probably because the prescriber wrote the Rx incorrectly for the patient’s actual dose. I really think the risk of overuse is overblown. Sleep medications and benzos, however.risks of overuse seem to be At least be sure they don't use the medication anymore. Past a certain point, gabapentin bioavailability begins to reduce. My appetite has shot up and I’m eating a lot morebut I’m not sure if it’s because of water weight or actual weight gain.
