Everyone might be a bold word, but from the evidence I have seen for gabapentin, as well as evidence for the FDA approved meds, I basically discuss gabapentin to everyone coming in for alcohol use disorder. Mixing gabapentin and alcohol intensifies central nervous system depression, increasing risks of drowsiness, dizziness, and respiratory depression. Consuming alcohol while on gabapentin can lead to severe side effects, including increased risk of seizures, overdose, and death. Gabapentin can help with alcohol withdrawal by counteracting the physiological effects of the syndrome. Evidence indicates that symptoms of alcohol withdrawal syndrome stem from reduced If you mix gabapentin and alcohol or other prescription drugs, you can experience dangerous side effects. The interaction between these substances can be life-threatening. Doctors don’t recommend drinking alcohol while taking gabapentin, especially for those who have just started taking it. However, you may talk to your doctor about drinking in moderation after you’ve reached a stable dose. Maybe it depends on your tolerance to gabapentin. Because I would drink so much and not feel anything but then Id get to the point where id start spinning and would need to lay down. I think gabapentin just makes alcohol less enjoyable overall. The research shows no significant harmful interactions between gabapentin and alcohol in controlled settings.
