I second the above posts about not prescribing to friends or family. I further second GoodRx.com, I love that website and it's helped several of my patients who are uninsured or underinsured! Later, I saw a coworker use goodRX for a patient and I learned from her. After, I had a patient who needed expensive antibiotics for her sick daughter and although she could afford them, she commented on the price. I'm looking for a good chart for retail that lists all the drugs that need to be dispensed in original bottle/packaging. I was browsing Pharmacist Letter and couldn't find a good list, just an article about why Pradaxa and other drugs need to stay in their original containers. Anyone have a good GoodRx doesn't have any incentive to provide accurate drug pricing without their discount card, so they generally don't. Their discount card also really cuts into the margins at the pharmacy. They actually pay very little and mostly just have a negotiated rate lower than the cash price. I am curious. The GoodRx website says that it makes money though pharmacy referral fees and ads on its website. It also mentions that they negotiate with the pharmacy through a PBM but normally a PBM is contracted with an insurance company, where insured customers pay premiums, and I know that pristiq has time released coating, but is it okay to cut the tablet in half for a patient weaning off the medication? Ideally patient would take a lower prescribed dose but they do not want to pay for more medication. Anyone have experience with this issue?
