The current work is targeted to review the risks of gabapentin misuse, its potential interactions with other drugs, side effects and use contraindications. This review consists of a total of 99 biographical references (from the year 1983 to 2016). A Compare Gabapentin vs Lyrica head-to-head with other drugs for uses, ratings, cost, side effects and interactions. Pregabalin Interactions There are 287 drugs known to interact with pregabalin, along with 6 disease interactions, and 1 alcohol/food interaction. Of the total drug interactions, 28 are major, 258 are moderate, and 1 is minor. Using gabapentin together with pregabalin may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating. Some people, especially the elderly, may also experience impairment in thinking, judgment, and motor coordination. Can both Pregabalin and Gabapentin be taken together? Yes, Pregabalin in combination with Gabapentin represent a valuable addition to the existing monotherapy with either Gabapentine or Pregabalin alone in patients with neuropathic pain and inflammatory nociception. Gabapentin and pregabalin are known to increase the risk for CNS effects, including ataxia, dizziness, drowsiness, and fatigue. The medications can also cause peripheral edema (2% to 8%) in the lower extremities. Drug interactions are reported among people who take Lyrica (pregabalin) and Gabapentin (gabapentin). Common drug interactions include chronic kidney disease among females and drug ineffective among males. Gabapentin (Neurontin 1 ) and pregabalin (Lyrica 2 ) are first- and second-generation α2δ ligands, respectively, and are both approved for use as adjunctive therapy in pain control. Lyrica CR Interactions There are 287 drugs known to interact with Lyrica CR (pregabalin), along with 6 disease interactions, and 1 alcohol/food interaction. Of the total drug interactions, 28 are major, 258 are moderate, and 1 is minor. Both gabapentin and Lyrica may interact with alcohol and drugs that cause sedation including narcotic pain medications. Gabapentin also may interact with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). A Moderate Drug Interaction exists between gabapentin and Lyrica. View detailed information regarding this drug interaction. Use WebMD's drug interaction checker to find which medications, vitamins, or supplements may be unsafe to combine. Compare Gabapentin vs Pregabalin head-to-head with other drugs for uses, ratings, cost, side effects and interactions. Using gabapentin together with pregabalin may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating. Some people, especially the elderly, may also experience impairment in thinking, judgment, and motor coordination. Review detailed drug interaction details between Pregabalin and Gabapentin, including severity, interaction details, how to manage the interaction, and more. Gabapentin is another gabapentinoid drug that operates in a very similar way to pregabalin. The two drugs are structurally similar and have the same mechanism of action, but they are not interchangeable. You should avoid taking gabapentin at the same time as pregabalin unless your doctor has specifically advised you to do so. Gabapentin and pregabalin are being massively prescribed for neuropathic pain of all kinds of etiologies. However, if these medications are combined or if given in a high dose, they can lead to adverse effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, weakness, and somnolence. Pregabalin may be used to treat certain types of pain and used in combination with other medications for partial seizures. Although both drugs have similar interactions, gabapentin may also interact with NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen, naproxen, and diclofenac. Because Lyrica and gabapentin belong to the same class of medicine (gabapentinoids), they have many similarities, for example: Gabapentin and Lyrica (pregabalin) generally aren't used together due to their numerous similarities. Taking both gabapentin and Lyrica together would generally be considered a 'therapeutic duplication', but there is some evidence of the potential positive benefits of this.
